How it works
The 1-day workshop is a condensed version of the full-weekend model (2-day workshop) that was originally used as part of my Masters research. It is designed to pull out the critical elements of the workshop only, and as such deprioritizes some of the workshop’s objectives, including building participant bonding and moving at a slow deliberate pace. Should you wish to really “go deep” with yourself, the 2-day workshop is probably more for you!
In this condensed version, we will be using more small-group work to advance the workshop’s objectives. We will start the activities with paired brainstorming over the “ideal organization” (rather than writing a story, like in the 2-day workshop), from which you will pick one element and spend the bulk of the day writing a ghost story about. Throughout independent writing, the facilitator(s) will be circulating to offer you support. You will also receive prompts and examples to help you in your writing.
There is a Shared Space Agreement that all participants have to adhere to during the workshop. This agreement was designed to maintain consistent expectations throughout the workshop, and try to make the space as “safe” as possible. Violation of the agreement might result in you being asked to leave.
We’ll meet from 10:00am-4:00pm, with a 1.5h lunch in the middle of the day (and breaks/independent work throughout). The workshop won’t have more than 8 participants, and ideally won’t have multiple people who have worked together at the same organization or in the same group.*
*should you wish to participate with a group of friends/colleagues/co-organizers, go to Contact.
Reciprocity
As this workshop is still in development & piloting phase, it is free to attend. However, participants are asked to provide feedback on the workshop experience & content, and share copies of their stories with the facilitator, as part of supporting the workshop’s continued development. Your stories will not be shared anywhere without consent, and should a paper or other published work be written and your story would be a good fit, I’ll reach out well in advance to request permission.
